“AMIGA MÍA”, MEETING WITH EVA VARELA
“Violence against women” means any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.”
Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women U.N.
You and I are women is a meeting with the dancer Eva Varela about the show “Amiga mía”. As a choreographic work, “Amiga mía” was born from the need to raise public awareness about the physical and emotional abuse of women. It is a show that emanates from the deepest emotions that “you suffer when you are involved in this nightmare.”
The story, based on real events, tells the experience of two women united by the mistreatment they have lived through. Together they will tackle the difficult journey of the search for freedom. To dream again, to feel, to love… from the abyss of loneliness to the longing for a better life. The play highlights the value of sisterhood. It is a journey through the experiences and emotions of two subjugated women, who support each other unconditionally, to face and end the dramatic situation they are going through.
The work “Amiga mía” will be available for viewing on the Vimeo channel of the Centro Coreográfico María Pagés from Friday, November 20 through Wednesday, November 25.
