Choreographic encounters, a collective voice and a desire for continuity
The social and political recognition of women in dance needs even more effort, more vision and much collective determination. The dignity and defense of dance and its women is the responsibility of all dance professionals. But it is also the responsibility of society. This is called to overcome its romantic vision, assuming that women who are dedicated to dance are organic professionals, whose functions integrate research, creation, production and business management. They are women who create art and work that supports many families.
The creation of the Centro Coreográfico María Pagés (CCMP) emanates from this spirit and this is its objective. Creating community is fundamental to take on the challenge and commitment of feminizing the voice of choreography. For this reason, our initial efforts have essentially focused on uniting female choreographers around the ideal of being together. Welcoming female colleagues from different dance disciplines to the CCMP is a priority that stems from our conviction that dance is a natural home for female creators and dance professionals and an agora for thinking together.
Our creative nature is determined by a self-absorption that makes contact difficult. However, it is clear that our work should not be limited to purely artistic activity, which does require a certain amount of withdrawal. Creation can only develop optimally through the enrichment that listening, dialogue and exchange bring to us as a community. We learn and grow better if we do it in community from a solidary complicity.
