María Pagés, president of our foundation, participated this morning, together with Miquel Iceta, Adriana Moscoso, Alfredo Sanzol, Silvia Marsó and Isabel Vidal, in the meeting “Present and future of the artist’s statute”, organized by the Ministry of Culture, at the Teatro Valle-Inclán.
He defended the Statute of the Artist as a historical fact, which initiates the necessary path of knowing, recognizing, ordering and protecting artists and professionals of the performing arts as cultural workers, in the labor, fiscal, social security and educational fields. And it has insisted that such recognition must take into account that it is an exceptional sector because it has special specificities that have not been recognized until now. It is true that the pandemic has highlighted the precariousness that characterizes the sector and the absence of laws to protect its professionals. The statute is more than welcome; it will undoubtedly foster the creation of community in a sector that is sadly individualized and will also help the recognition of culture by society, which must feel it as its own.
