Dunes

Dunes

The dancer and choreographer María Pagés and the Belgian-Moroccan choreographer and dancer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (Best Choreographer of the Year 2008) bring together flamenco and contemporary dance in a profoundly innovative piece born of mutual admiration.

Arising from care, respect and the curiosity to explore unknown territories until that moment, both have found the way to fuse their particular choreographic universes.

With Dunas they put up a unique spectacle accompanied with original music by Szymon Brzoska and Rubén Levaniegos, mued with flamenco, classic and Arab echoes which evoke their own roots. With a beautiful scenery that transports us to the exotic magic of the desert, Dunes overcomes cultural differences, sketching shared landscapes and building with the universal language of dance and emotions rich bridges of dialogue.

The piece premiered at the Dance Festival of Singapore in October 2009. Since then it has been presented in theatres and festivals around the world, earning in 2010 the Giraldillo Award for Best Show at the XVI Seville Flamenco Biennale.
